Cataratas de Iguazú

Iguazú Falls

When I visited the Iguaçu falls on the Brazilian side, the experience was slightly underwhelming. I guess my expectations were too high. I had expected more power. Consequently, when visiting the Argentinian side of the falls a couple of days later, the experience was slightly overwhelming. I had lower expectations while the natural forces were much stronger.

I started my visit to Parque Nacional Iguazú at the top of the Devil’s Gorge (Garganta del Diablo). It is hard to describe it in words, but it was one of the most powerful experiences of my life. It was truly mind-blowing to feel the force of water plummeting down into the gorge. I was mesmerized.

Having admired the falls from above, I gradually moved downstream. The national park is organized very well, having various marked routes that give beautiful view of the falls. It was hard to stop taking photos because it seemed that every turn of the trail offered a novel view of the falls.

In sum, I spent a fantastic day by the falls living the overwhelming experience I had anticipated when planning my trip.
